IT'S RAINING, IT'S POURING!

Rain
(Traditional Tune - Download the book at drjean.org/April, 2007)
It’s raining, it’s pouring,                     (Make rain by wiggling fingers
The old man is snoring.                       in a downward motion.)
He went to bed,
And he bumped his head,                   (Pretend to bump hand with palm.)
And he couldn’t get up in the morning. (Shake head “no.”)

Rain, rain, go away,                            (Make rain with fingers.)
Come again another day.
All the children want to play.
Rain, rain, go away.

It’s raining, it’s pouring,
The old man is snoring.
He went to bed, and he bumped his head,
And he couldn’t get up in the morning.

Old Man Snoring – Have children draw pictures of the “old man snoring.”  Put them together to make a book.
Rainy Day Reading  - Put a golf umbrella in the corner of the room and invite children to read books under it.
What If? - Have children draw pictures and write stories of what they would do if they were a raindrop.

Webbing – Make an attribute web of all the things that benefit from rain.  Use a T-chart to brainstorm positive and negative things about rain.

Make Rain – Make “rain” as a transition activity to quiet children.  Hold up one palm and tap with one finger from the other hand.  Next, slowly add another finger and tape with two, then three, four, and five.  (At this point you can also stomp your feet to make thunder.)  Reverse the process by tapping with five fingers, then four, three, two, one.  Quietly place your hands in your lap.  It will really sound like a rain storm is coming and then going away.
